FESTIVE SEASON FITNESS NOT AN EAT-A-THON

While we are on holidays, not teaching classes, we venture out and stay active.

The first thing we do every morning is meet up for a 5.30am Walk/Run.  The best made intentions of working out can fall by the wayside with the hectic schedule of catching up with friends, family and shopping.  Make a committment to yourself to get moving early in the day.  Not only will you maintain your fitness but an exercise session is an excellent form of stress relief.

Use the warm weather to try something new.  The Kayak Fitness session was one we tried this week and we'll be back for more. The festive season can be a minefield of choices, food is calorie laden and high in fat. We always recommend everything in moderation, allow yourself to indulge but don't make it a continuous eat-a-thon or drink-a-thon.  The excessive calorie intake without the 'output' will see you putting on a few kilos in a short period of time.

Take some light fitness equipment with you, a theraband or Barre Ball.  If travelling by car, pack your yoga mat.  Rent a Fitness DVD, or check out workouts online.  Load up your ipod with some motivating music and make a plan to 'move it' while you're away.

Load these APPS onto your smartphone.

We tried and tested and still use WALKMETER and MY FITNESS PAL.
1. MY FITNESS PAL - an excellent Kj/Calorie tracking system on your phone. Input the food you consume throughout the day and you will quickly notice how all the 'hidden' snacks add up.  An excellent APP to use on holidays t o prevent a muffin top by the time you return.

2. WALKMETER - this APP records your time, distance, Kj output, map your run or walk and keep a history of your workouts on a calendar.  An excellent subsitute for a personal trainer.
