HOW SAFE IS YOUR NEW DIET? THE HCG EXPLAINED

For some reason diet fads seem to take on a life of their own. Sometimes that life can be great and other times not-so.

Someone loses weight and the first question is "How did you do it?" Then everyone looking for a quick fix gives it a go … and the yo-yo syndrome begins. Weight off, weight on …

We have seen them all: Pritikin, Dukan, Lemon, Low Carb, High Protein, Low GI … the list is endless!

Recently the Dukan diet -- a high protein diet – was in favour. In truth, it does work for a while - until it becomes impossible to maintain it in a normal lifestyle. Then the kilos start creeping back on the body.

Currently doing the rounds is the HCG diet. If you haven't heard of it, you will very soon - we know its popularity is growing right now in Mosman.

The HCG diet

The diet incorporates restrictive calorie intake with the use of HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin), a hormone that women produce during pregnancy. HCG's structure is similar to a thyroid stimulating hormone.

The hormone drastically decreases your appetite and the diet consists of consuming just 500 calories a day and no alcohol. Honestly, sarcastically I have to exclaim – “It's a miracle. You lose weight!” and “WOW. You will lose a pound a day!

Is it the 500 calories a day or the miracle hormone? No one knows. Nor is there any scientific evidence to support the claims you’ll maintain your new weight … supposedly because of your new, faster metabolism.

Be warned, the side effects include male breast enlargement, irritability, headaches and fatigue. Yet worse, purchasing the hormone online means you are at risk of not knowing exactly what is in the product.

Real food, real results

Our philosophy is to eat real food. Stop looking for the quick fix options.

The real food has to be as close to its natural state as possible and avoid all processed, high sugar, high saturated fat foods. 

After the age of 40 you won’t be able to indulge like you once could. Your muscle mass decreases and diets successfully further eat away at your shrinking muscle store.
