YOGA KAYAK

Our RANCAN SISTERS FITNESS Yoga Kayak sessions are so much more than just a fun outdoors fitness workout.....
Time and time again our Yoga Kayak enthusiasts tell us how wonderful they feel for the whole weekend after participating in their yoga kayak workout.

Yoga and Kayak is the perfect combination to de-stress, stretch, strengthen and is the ideal environment for 'BAREFOOT HEALING' or EARTHING. Just like our need for Air, Water, Sunlight and Food our connection to the earth is so vital that standing on the earth barefoot can produce rapid improvements in how we feel.  We spend our lives 'insulated' so the unique location of yoga/kayak, outdoors barefoot yoga and dipping your toes (or in some cases your whole body) into the ocean is so beneficial for your total well being.

The benefits of the two components YOGA AND KAYAKING -
YOGA is a renowned antidote to stress.  Researchers have discovered that the regular practice of yoga increases fitness, normalises blood
pressure, increases feelings of happiness and wellbeing.  This is because concentrating on the postures and the breath acts as a powerful
form of meditation.

KAYAKING is a low impact activity that improves aerobic fitness, strength and flexibility. Kayaking improves muscle strength in the back,
arms, shoulders and chest.  As you strengthen and improve technique the torso and legs work hard.  There is a reduced risk of wear and tear on joints and tissues because it's a low impact activity. KAYAKING can be peaceful and meditative as you listen to the water and are gently rocked with the movement or it can be exhilarating.  We offer the two groups during our session so you can experience either one.  Some days you will want to push hard and other days you need to be calm.

YOGA/KAYAK allows you to BREATHE. Why should you concentrate on breathing? Focusing on breathing like we do in Yoga and Kayaing - both exercises which force you to breathe deeply have many health benefits.
When a person is under stress, their breathing pattern changes. Typically, an anxious person takes small, shallow breaths, using their shoulders rather than their diaphragm to move air in and out of their lungs. This style of breathing disrupts the balance of gases in the body.
When a person is relaxed, they breathe through their nose in a slow, even and gentle way. Deliberately copying a relaxed breathing pattern seems to calm the nervous system that controls the body’s involuntary functions.
Controlled breathing can cause physiological changes that include:
Lowered blood pressure and heart rate
Reduced levels of stress hormones in the blood
Reduced lactic acid build-up in muscle tissue
Balanced levels of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the blood
Improved immune system functioning
Increased physical energy
Increased feelings of calm and wellbeing.
